Mothers Who Follow Jesus

When I first sat down to think about writing this lesson I really wanted to tell some heart-string-tugging and dazzling ministry stories. This is what I've been taught to do in order to keep the support base excited. I agree this is important and there are some stories to tell, but I wanted this lesson to focus more on moms and rather than the ordinary side of church planting, however we will focus on the mother who helped Jesus plant his first church.

As a bible student, one of my heroes in the faith was and still is Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary was one of Jesus first members of his church plant. God build Mary to endure some heavy pressure. Mary had to bury her son, undergo the lies and rumors of the people in her community.

During this Mother Day Celebration, If you would, lets peak into Mary life for a moment. I believe you will be enlightened. As we look into her life, we will first noticed her motherly servitude, it begins in Luke 1:30 an angel name Gabriel told her fear not for thou hast found favour with God.
Verse 31… thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

And verse 38 Mary responded, "I am the Lord's servant, and I am willing to accept whatever he wants. May everything you have said come true." And then the angel left. We also notice hear that she had a motherly servant attitude; Her willingness to do, to let her body be a vessel of God’s glory. Further in that text, we can appreciate her motherly candied and her fearlessness to go to her fiancĂ© and tell him ”honey, I am pregnant but it’s not yours, its God’s son. Perhaps, I could hear Joseph now saying, “say, what?!”

Later we see her strength, how she traveled on a wild beast for many miles during census season to Bethlehem. Listen, that is not all, but after getting there having no where to sleep. Now, I would hate to be in Joseph shoes---having to deal with a woman who is pregnant and then have to tell her there is no room in the inn. That is not it and then telling her the next alternative is to sleep in a barn, a manger, or a stall. We never read in the text that she complained.

In the book of John, chapter 2 we noticed several motherly qualities, we learn from Mary, the mother of Jesus: She was willing to be involved in social gatherings.

I. Mothers you have to be willing to minister to the community
She was connected with someone outside her median family.
She was doing some spiritual outreach.
She became a channel, a vessel for someone to receive a miracle.

II. Mothers recognize a need and fill it
· She did not complain about the outcome of the wedding.
· She became a solution and not a problem
· She was a willing vessel
· She recognized a need and filled it.

Three types of people who comes to a wedding:
Bystander
Participator
Complainer
Which one are you…?

III. Mothers live for Jesus

· She went to Jesus when there was trouble
· She obey Jesus
· She was part of a Great miracle (Water was turn into wine)

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY...GOD BLESS YOU!
